Gandhi Pravasa: A Journey into Gandhian Living and Sustainable Tourism
Launched at Heggodu’s Shramjeevi Ashram, Gandhi Pravasa is a sustainable tourism initiative that offers a hands-on journey into Gandhian values—simple living, dignity of labour, handmade production and Swadeshi. Organised by Charaka in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, the initiative invites visitors to experience these ideals through rural life, craft and community.

‘Gandhi Pravasa’ Sustainable Tourism Project was inaugurated On June 27, 2025, at the Shramjeevi Ashram of Heggodu. ‘Gandhi Pravasa’ is organized by the Charaka Womens' Multipurpose Industrial Co-operative Society in collaboration with the Department of Tourism, Govt. of Karnataka. It was formally launched by Senior Gandhian and National Convener of the ‘Bapuji Ke Log’ Shri. Vijay Pratapji.

The aim of this project is to introduce Gandhian principles of simple living, upholding labour, handmade production and the ideals of Swadeshi through hands-on experience. Tamil Nadu's well-known theatreperson Shri. Pralayan was invited as a special guest for this event. Charaka's President Smt. Mahalakshmi presided over the inauguration event. The founder of Charaka, Shri. Prasanna, delivered the inaugural address. Smt. Sharada Ganesh, Managing Trustee of Desi Trust introduced the concept of 'Gandhi Pravasa' to everyone. Smt. Padmashri, head of Design at Charaka welcomed the guests and convened the programme. The programme was attended by members of Charaka Society, local guests and students of Shivappanayaka Agriculture and Horticulture University in Iruvakki.
